C

Carrier

This refers to the mover.

Certified Scale

A scale, sometimes a platform or a warehouse scale, that is certified by an authorized scale inspection and licensing authority and designed to weigh motor vehicles, including those with trailers.

Claim

A statement of loss, damage or delay of household goods during transportation or while in the care of a moving company.

C.O.D.

This stands for Cash On Delivery. This is payment that is required by the customer upon delivery and is usually required in the form of cash, traveler’s checks, cashier’s checks or money orders. Personal checks are not normally accepted. Payment by credit card is sometimes accepted, but prior arrangements must be made with the moving company as verification of the credit card will be required prior to providing any moving services.

Cost of Move

Just as the term implies, this is the cost for the actual move and does not include any extra charges or insurance costs. The price is determined based upon information obtained during your initial interview or in-home estimate. Every effort is typically made on the part of the moving company to quote a cost of move as close to the actual cost, but keep in mind that services which require extra men or extraordinary work, such as stair carries and having to park a moving van far away from your home due to parking regulations of an apartment building or dorm, for instance, will be an additional charge.
