Flight Charge

When an elevator is inaccessible to use during a move from a second floor or higher unit, a flight charge is often assessed as an additional cost for manuveuring flights of stairs. The price is calculated to begin either at the point of origin or the destination, and count the levels upon reaching the top of one flight. For instance, a Fifth floor unit would be charged a fee for four flights since you start on the first floor, reaching the end of the first flight upon reaching the second floor.

Freight Service

A lower-cost alternative to full-service moving expenses. Freight service covers only the delivery of household items from one location to another. Items are expected to be boxed and ready for pickup and will be delivered to the doorstep and not inside your new house. It does not cover the cost of packing, unpacking, packing materials or blankets inside the truck.

Fuel Surcharge

A fee assessed to account for increased fuel costs. This surcharge changes periodically, sometimes as often as monthly, and is based upon the national average cost of diesel as reported by the United States Department of Energy.

Full Replacement Value Protection

A plan that provides protection of your items and covers you in the most comprehensive manner. If any of your items is lost, destroyed or damaged during transit or while in the mover’s care, the moving company will either repair the article or replace the article. It is their option which is chosen for compensation. The cost for full replacement value protection varies between moving companies and may be subject to deductibles. Ask your mover for details of their specific plan, and read everything to make sure you understand it completely before agreeing to the conditions.

Full Service Mover

A moving company that moves all of your household goods from one location to another. Your items will be picked up and delivered from every room in one house to the appropriate rooms in another. Each item is appropriately wrapped in blankets and other protection for safe shipping. At additional costs, full service movers also provide packing, unpacking, appliance service and other available or special services.
